SAU at Delhi called for admission to different programs at master's and PhD level programs for the academic year of 2017-2018.
South Asian University (SAU) is an international university established by the eight member nations of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) viz. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

SAU started its operations from the academic year 2010. The university now offers post-graduate and doctoral programmes in various disciplines that include Economics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Sociology, International Relations and Law. It will ultimately have 11 post-graduate faculties and a faculty of undergraduate studies. SAU attracts students from all member nations and its degrees are recognised by all the eight SAARC countries.

The University is currently functioning from Akbar Bhawan Campus in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi before it eventually moves in to its 100 acre campus in Maidan Garhi, South Delhi where construction is under way.

MA in Economics (30) 12 years of schooling + a 3 year Bachelor’s degree with mathematics as a,subject of study at the 10 +2 (12th class) level or at the Bachelor’s,level or both from an institution recognized by the government of any of,the SAARC countries, with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or an,equivalent grade. Candidates who have a 4 year Bachelor’s degree or 2,year Bachelor’s degree and have cleared the first year of the Master’s,programme are also eligible. The duration of the Entrance Test will be 3 hours and the question paper,will consist of 50 multiple choice questions of two marks each.
Faculty of Mathematics & Computer Science
MSc in Computer Science (30) 12 years of schooling + a 3 year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,or a relevant area* with mathematics as a subject either at the,Bachelor’s level or at 10+2 (12th class) level from an institution,recognized by the government of any of the SAARC countries, with a,minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade. Candidates who,have a 4 year Bachelor’s degree or 2 year Bachelor’s degree and have,cleared the first year of the Master’s programme are also eligible. The duration of the Entrance Test will be 3 hours and the question paper,will consist of 100 multiple choice questions in two parts.
MSc in Applied Mathematics (30) 12 years of schooling + a 3 year Bachelor’s degree (with Mathematics as a,subject for at least two years) from an institution recognized by the,government of any of the SAARC countries, with a minimum of 55% marks in,aggregate or an equivalent grade. Candidates who have a 4 year,Bachelor’s degree or 2 year Bachelor’s degree and have cleared the first,year of the Master’s programme are also eligible. The duration of the Entrance Test will be 3 hours and the question paper,will consist of 100 multiple choice questions in two parts. Calculators will not be allowed. However, Log Tables may be used.
Faculty of Legal Studies
LLM (Master of Laws) (30) 12 years of schooling + a 5 year integrated BA/LLB degree or 12 years of,schooling + a 2 or 3 year Bachelor’s degree + a 3 year LLB degree or 12,years of schooling + a 4 year LLB degree) from an institution,recognized by the government of any of the SAARC countries, with a,minimum of 50% marks or an equivalent grade The duration of the Entrance Test will be 3 hours and the question paper,will consist of 100 multiple choice questions in two parts.
Faculty of Life Sciences & Biotechnology
MSc in Biotechnology (30) 12 years of schooling + a 3 year Bachelor’s degree (BSc, BVSc, BTech,,MBBS, etc.) in any area of Biological Sciences / Chemistry / Agriculture,and allied sciences; Veterinary and allied sciences / Biotechnology /,Biochemical Technology from an institution recognized by the government,of any of the SAARC countries, with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate,or an equivalent grade. Students who have not studied Biology at the,Bachelor’s level must have studied and passed in Biology as a subject at,the 10+2 (12th class) level. Candidates who have a 4 year Bachelor’s,degree or 2 year Bachelor’s degree and have cleared the first year of,the Master’s programme are also eligible. The Entrance Test will be of 3 hours duration and the question paper,will have multiple-choice questions in two parts. Each question will,carry one mark. Simple calculators may be used. If the answer given to any of the Multiple Choice Questions is wrong, ¼ of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.
Faculty of Social Sciences
MA in International Relations (30) 12 years of schooling + a 3 year Bachelor’s degree from an institution,recognized by the government of any of the SAARC countries, with a,minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade. Candidates who,have a 4 year Bachelor’s degree or 2 year Bachelor’s degree and have,cleared the first year of the Master’s programme are also eligible. Eligible candidates have to appear for an Entrance Test which will be of,3 hours duration. The question paper will have three parts. If the answer given to any of the Multiple Choice Questions is wrong, ¼ of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.
MA in Sociology (30) 12 years of schooling + a 3 year Bachelor’s degree from an institution,recognized by the government of any of the SAARC countries in any,discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or an equivalent,grade. Candidates who have a 4 year Bachelor’s degree or 2 year,Bachelor’s degree and have cleared the first year of the Master’s,programme are also eligible. Eligible candidates must appear for an Entrance Test which will be of 3 hours duration. The question paper will have two parts. If the answer given to any of the Multiple Choice Questions is wrong, ¼ of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

Applicants who have not yet completed the Bachelor’s degree course and are yet to appear for their last year/semester exam, may also apply for admission and appear in the Entrance Test. However, their admission will be confirmed only if they fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria of aggregate percentage of marks at the Bachelor’s level and the first year of MA/MSc course besides clearing the Entrance Test. The first phase consists of an Entrance Test,and the minimum marks required to clear the Entrance Test will be 25,(out of 50). Those who are short-listed for the second phase will have,to submit a written research proposal and face an interview. A minimum,of 50% marks will have to be secured separately, in both the written,test and the interview, in order to be eligible for admission. The final,merit list will be prepared by totalling the marks obtained in both the,phases.

will consist of 2 phases, an Entrance Test followed by an Interview. The,Entrance Test will carry a weightage of 70 marks and the interview will,carry a weightage of 30 marks. A minimum of 50% marks will have to be,secured separately, in both the written test and the interview, in order,to be eligible for admission.

PhD in Legal Studies (4) 12 years of schooling + a 5 year integrated BA/ LLB programme or a 2,or 3 year Bachelor’s degree followed by a 3 year LLB programme + a 2,year/1 year LLM programme from an institution recognized by the,government of any of the SAARC countries, with a minimum of 50% marks or,an equivalent grade.
Those who have an LLB degree followed by a one-year LLM degree must have a minimum of 60% marks to be eligible to apply.
An Entrance Test followed by an Interview. 50% of marks from the,Entrance Test will be added to the second phase. Candidates will be,evaluated out of an overall score of 100 (50% from the Entrance Test and,50% from the proposal, statement of purpose and interview). However, their admission will be subject to their fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria of aggregate percentage of marks at the Master’s level besides clearing the Entrance Test. Application Fee, Date and Venues for the Entrance Test


An Entrance Test will be conducted simultaneously throughout the SAARC region on 9 April 2017. The fee for appearing in the Entrance Test is US $10 or INR 670/-. Applications for admission will be accepted only online and payment must be made by credit/debit cards or net banking. Those who cannot pay the application fee online still need to fill and submit the online application form. They can then courier a bank draft for US$ 10 or INR 670/- drawn in favour of “ South Asian University” payable at New Delhi to the Deputy Registrar Admissions, South Asian University, Akbar Bhawan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110021, India. The bank draft must have the name of the candidate, application number and the programme applied for at the back of the bank draft. However, registration will be done only on receipt of the bank draft.
